EBV-positive post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (EBV+ PTLD) is a rare but serious complication of both hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and solid organ transplantation, and it may follow a rapidly progressive and aggressive course. Prompt diagnosis is therefore critical, especially in light of the availability of novel targeted therapeutic options that have demonstrated high efficacy. This topic was addressed during the 51st Annual Meeting of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) held in Florence.

“In EBV+ PTLD treatment, when patient relapse or does not respond to standard of care, we can look for personalized cell therapies based on specificity to EBV, referring patients to specialized centres“. The opinion of Anna Sureda (Hematology Department Catalan Institute of Oncology, Duran I Reynals Hospital, Barcelona).

“Learning about disease, understanding diagnosis and treatment options, empowers patients to make informed decisions and actively participate in their care”. Lorna Warwick (Lymphoma Coalition Mississauga, ON, Canada) point of view.

The introduction of new therapeutic options allows for an increasingly personalised treatment and enables a more effective shared decision making process. An overview by Anna Sureda  and Lorna Warwick.
